Career GHHTs - Bill Guerin

Bill Guerin was one of the NHL's top power forward during his 18 year career.  He could score and he could drop the mitts. By the end of his career, he had 429 goals, 856 points and 1660 PIM.  Over his career, Guerin would rack up four Gordie Howe Hat Tricks.  He was a fight shy of getting a double Gordie in a game against the Mighty Ducks of Anahiem in 2002.

2012-13 GHT: Jamie Benn

Jamie Benn earns his first career Godie Howe Hat Trick which included a spirited fight with Joe Thornton.  Sometimes the fight in the Gordie Howe Hat Trick is weak but this one was a doozy between two skilled players.  Benn added an assist and then scored an insurance goal in the third period to help cement a 3-1 victory for the Dallas Stars.

2012-13 GHT - Derek Dorsett

Derek Dorsett is no stranger to the scoring sheet, albeit it's normally in the penalties section.  Dorsett led the NHL with 235 PIM in 2011-12.  On February 21st, 2013 versus the Detroit Red Wings, Dorsett was all over the scoring sheet as he achieved his first career Gordie Howe Hat Trick.  Dorsett scored to tie it 2-2 and then assisted on the game winning goal.  The fight was a quick one, Dorsett later called it a cheap shot by Tootoo.  What do you think?  Was Tootoo dirty or just quicker?  Here's a better link to the fight.

2013 GHT - Wayne Simmonds - 2 in 3 Games

Wayne Simmonds had two Gordie Howe Hat Tricks in a three game span.  Chris Stewart was the last player to have two Gordie Howe Hat Tricks in a single season, back in 2009-10.  Simmonds first GHHT of the season came on February 20th versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. Simmonds potted two goals, an assist and had a fight versus Penguins enforcer, Tanner Glass.

Two games later, on February 23rd, Simmonds does the trick again, this time against the Winnipeg Jets.  Simmonds doesn't pick his spots when it comes to dropping the gloves, as he once against takes on another enforcer, Chris Throburn.  On top of that, Simmonds' goal is the game winning goal, breaking a 3-3 tie in the third period.  Here's a post game interview where he is asked about his Gordie Howe Hat Trick.  The verbal response is typical hockey cliche, but he gives it away with his facial expression.  Simmonds now has three career Gordie Howe Hat Tricks.

2012-13 GHT: Mike Richards

On February 5, Mike Richards collects his 3rd career Gordie Howe Hat Trick, including one during the last year's play-offs.  The Kings captain sticks up for a teammate after a Brandon Dublinsky drives Rob Scuderi into the board from behind.  Richards and Dubinsky are no strangers as this was the fifth time they had fought each other in the NHL.  Richards racked up 19 minutes of penalites on the play but was still had enough time to finish off the GHHT with a goal in the third.

And the first Gordie Howe Hat Trick of the 2013 season goes to.... Brenden Dillon.  Dillon grabbed an assist and a goal in the first period.  He finished it up with a fight against Kyle Chipchura in the second period.  It took Dillon 9 career games to get his first career Gordie Howe Hat Trick.  It was also Brenden's first career NHL goal.
